These are some of the key factors and trends that would drive the digital enterprise in 2015 and beyond. We @CloudIOPlatform understand and believe that the need to enable and empower enterprises and developers to do more, address complexity, do it rapidly, reduce costs and with less skills is of paramount importance. The factors outlined above and much more can be achieved using the platform and frameworks provided by CloudIO as we align our product line to enable these enterprises to compete in this fast changing world and achieve respective objectives.
Innovate, Transform, Accelerate: Powering the Digital Future - This is what the recently concluded Gartner Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit rolled it up. Some of the key takeaways from the session as gathered from various sources….
Agile Adoption: Agile methodology which is the buzz word for so long will continue to be popular and we would see more organisations adopt it to manage IT development teams and projects. Already, most of the infographics show that almost 90% of small to medium companies are using agile in one form or the other. Scrum is one of the various methodologies which saw major adoption and concentrates particularly on task management within a team-based environment. Since its a process that allows companies to focus on delivering the highest business value in the shortest time(Mike Cohn), any business that wants to increase its ROI will adopt it and the trend seems to continue going forward.
Citizen Developer: Citizen developers will be building at least a quarter of new business applications by 2014, according to Gartner. Gartner defines a "citizen developer" as an end user who creates new business applications for consumption by others using development and runtime environments sanctioned by corporate IT. The concept is correct but adoption is quite low mainly because of the non-availability of relevant platforms, frameworks and tools in the market for the citizen developer to do so.
Era of API’s: Its going to mark and end to ESB and pave a wider way for API’s as the service based abstraction layer for the enterprise IT. Business systems can no longer rely on the ESB to streamline and integrate data points and are looking for alternatives. Their is a significant need for enterprise IT to adopt alternatives to ESB but still preserve the concepts of SOA, loose coupling, componentization etc. The move is more towards JSON from XML and from SOAP to REST API’s.
Mobile Imperative Spreads: Of course we have already seen consumers go gaga over mobile apps and in the coming year (s), we would see the enterprise embrace mobile in a big way. Organisations got a taste of it and now are craving for more and so are the developers making their efforts to cater to them. Unlike consumers, enterprises are a bit cautious in adopting new technologies and often it starts with a single department and spreads through the rest of enterprise. Value of developing apps for the enterprise is being realised by the developer community across small and larger organisations and we could see remarkable increase in the developers tuning themselves to build apps for the enterprise. Key here is the native vs hybrid theory and Gartner predicts that by 2016, more than 50% of mobile apps will be hybrid.
